Mirror Memoirs started as a storytelling project, an archive of audio interviews of Black, Indigenous and of color LGBTQI child sexual abuse survivors sharing their stories with me.

That was back in 2016. Over the next two years, I interviewed 60 survivors across 16 states in the US. And they quickly began asking to meet one another. Many had never had peer support before, or access to healing resources like therapy or somatic practice. Thanks to a generous donation of frequent flyer miles, I was able to convene 31 survivors in the fall of 2017. That national gathering became the foundation of our strategic plan.

Today, we are a national organization with over 700 BIPOC LGBTQI survivor members and thousands of supporters who are joining us in the work of ending rape culture and protecting all children.

And, the world has changed around us so drastically these past eight years since we began this journey. So many of our members are living in poverty, experiencing housing and food instability, unable to access the medicines and masks and air filters that prevent long COVID, and generally navigating anxiety as fascism and climate catastrophe accelerate and as hate violence against our community (and especially against Black and of color transgender and gender nonconforming people) grows.

In response, Mirror Memoirs has invited all 85 of our public-facing survivor storyteller members to convene in Los Angeles in September 2024. This will be our first in person convening since fall 2019, and our members are so excited to gather, deepen relationship, heal, grieve, laugh, learn and support one another, especially as we plan to release our audio archive from Fall 2024-Fall 2025.

40 survivors have already RSVP’d for this gathering, but 20 of these folks have indicated they will only be able to attend with a travel scholarship.

$1,500 will cover the airfare, hotel room and taxis for one survivor to attend. Please help me raise the funds for at least 10 travel scholarships.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Mirror Memoirs. Thank you
